Description
PubDAO would like to spin up a private pod that will focus on the creation of content for MolochDAO, whether it be educational, marketing-focused, or even documentation. The pod would consist of 2-3 writers and an editor. The pod can produce content focused on MolochDAO itself, or Eth2 as a whole.
Pods typically produce a minimum of 2-4 long-form (1000 words+) pieces of content per month, or 5-10 short-form (500-750 words). The pod will require one representative of MolochDAO to join to act as the guide and decision-maker on whether or not we create specific pieces of content, and what kind of content or communication assets would most benefit MolochDAO.
PubDAO is a media DAO focused on leveraging web3 to improve the ways we create and distribute media. We recently launched our pod program, which you can learn more about in our announcement post here, as well as in our Notion. PubDAO was initially founded by Decrypt, and receives the full support of Decrypt, its resources, and human capital. We are currently in the process of progressively decentralizing the DAO, and our writing pods are the first product PubDAO is bringing to the web3 ecosystem.
Manifesto/Vision
PubDAO knows that quality news, content, and media are non-rivalrous, non-excludable public goods. PubDAO sees a world in which the incentives of media creators, distributors, and consumers are aligned and transparent. A world in which quality is compensated toward ends of a globally optimal solution.
Problem
Web2 paradigms have bastardized media creation and distribution models. World-class writers are reduced to writing SEO-optimized posts, click-bait news headers, and tacky corporate ad copy. Some of the best and brightest researchers don’t get the funding they need because they have some takes that loci of centralized power - like corporations, lobbies, and even universities - consider just a bit too hot and disruptive to the status quo.
The incentive structures underpinning these paradigms are, by and large, value extractive for the content creators – both financially and professionally. As a result, Moloch is serving the public luke-warm, stale content and getting paid for each click.
Web3 offers a new paradigm that gives ownership, creative control, and choice back to the content creators. Web3 tooling and primitives make possible new and novel modes of coordination and incentive alignment. The result is higher quality content entering the public domain.
Progress is being made, still, media-based public goods are still grossly underfunded.
Solution
PubDAO uses publisher agnostic private pods to produce content as a service, and uses funding from private pods to fund public pods– writing groups that create content as a public good. This structure aims to attract like-minded projects to sponsor private pods in return for best-in-class content. Private pods also serve as fundraising mechanisms for public pods: so that DAO can support media as a public good.
Private pods are sponsored by a client and the content is owned completely by them. These co-working groups consist of skilled writers and editors curated for the desired outcome of the pod and will be created as needed by market demand. When a client or company requests to spin up a pod, they are required to allocate an additional token bounty, on top of the standard token bounty available for writers in the pod.
Public pods create content considered to be a public good that enriches the ecosystem. These co-working groups consist of any PubDAO member who is interested in working with other pubbers on publishing content for PubDAO. A portion of the private pod payouts will be used to fund public pods.

Validation
PubDAO has an active private pod sponsorship in Decrypt and has published both educational content and news (PubDAO broke the Moloch V3 announcement via Decrypt). Spoiler alert: our next article in the pipeline is an explainer on MolochDAO.
Moreover, we’ve secured another private pod sponsorship with a top DeFi protocol. We have a partnership with an emerging metaverse project and are also in active conversations with two other Ethereum-based projects to sponsor private pods.
Progress
In less than a month since our Season 0 launch, we’ve secured two private pods and a handful of other leads. We’ve published two articles with a robust roadmap.
We’ve developed a strong nucleus of community members and contributors that not only bring great ideas, they also deliver.
Finally, we’re slated to officially launch the DAO (as an official legal entity with an ERC-20 token) at the end of Q2 2022.
